Journalist Zack Greenburg recently traveled to Marrakech, Morrocco to be the first person to hear a snippet of the Wu-Tang Clans’ single copy album, The Wu – Once Upon A Time In Shaolin.
The secret project, which is tucked away inside the Mansour Hotel, was an authentic idea from the “get-go” the album’s producer, Tarik “Cilvaringz” Azzougarh said. “It happened to get a lot of publicity—great—but it is a genuine concept with a genuine core and a genuine goal.”
The mindset behind the album’s creation was to preserve an art form that some musicians think might be lost in Hip-Hop.
“The idea that music is art has been something we advocated for years,” Wu-Tang Clan member RZA said. “And yet it doesn’t receive the same treatment as art in the sense of the value of what it is, especially nowadays when it’s been devalued and diminished to almost the point that it has to be given away for free.”
