Fresh off getting back into gear alongside Andre 3000 again, Big Boi has added another entry to his list of things to celebrate: a new deal with Epic Records. While attending a Grey Goose launch party last night (May 9), the Outkast MC share with The Huffington Post that he has linked back up with L.A. Reid.
“I just signed a deal with Epic Records,” he said. “So I’m back with L.A. Reid and Sylvia Rhone. Got a brand new situation. I signed the deal the day after the first Coachella date, that Saturday.”
A homecoming of sorts, Big Boi returns to business with Reid, who signed he and Andre over 20 years ago. He talked about the working relationship he has with Reid, and how it contributes to his music.
“He understands my music,” he told HuffPost. “And one thing about L.A. Reid, there are no creative restraints. He trusts my ear and let’s me make the music I want to make. We love being in business together. That’s my big brother.”
And while he has a string of upcoming Outkast gigs to tend to, Big Boi also talked upcoming solo music, stating that he would be dropping a few singles in the meantime.
“The album I’m not gonna rush,” he said. “I wanted to put something out before the end of the year. It depends, because me and Dre got a lot of work to do from now until the end of October. [But] you’re definitely going to get some brand new Big Boi material. Two or three singles before the fall.”
