There are two sides to every story, right? Chauncey Mahan, a past engineer of Jay-Z’s who worked with The Roc between 1998 and 2002 and was recently involved in an extortion plot against HOV, has been called out by his former colleague Just Blaze.
Just Blaze took to Twitter yesterday (April 21) to call Mahan a “dummy” for thinking he didn’t have back-ups of all of the files he was trying to extort Jay for. He also said Mahan was such a mess up at The Roc that they had to replace him with the engineer Guru.
The New Jersey born producer started off the conversation by correcting a XXL story saying, “Lol. He was never the brightest. One correction: he was an engineer, not a producer.” From there, Just Blaze went off, clowning on the attempted — now busted — extortionist. Blaze even detailed a story of when Mahan tried to fight Grammy award-winning producer, Duro. “I’ll never forget the day Chaunce stepped to Duro wanting to fight lol. This guy ruined every tape transfer for the Dynasty Album. Duro calls him out on it. He runs over to Soundtrack studios, comes in the room like ‘yo Duro I ain’t no bitch’ takes his jacket off. Me and Duro just looked at him. Blankest of stares.. And went back to work,” he explained.
He continued by giving examples of all the tracks Chauncey screwed up, ending each tweet with a hash tag worthy, “Bc Chauncey.” Just Blaze ended the conversation with this: “I’m not “blasting” dude. Saw funny story that brought back some memories. bad as some of those situations were, I’m happy i can laugh @ them.”
