Oprah Also Expressed Interest In Buying The L.A. Clippers

As the list of sponsors dissolving their partnerships with the Los Angeles Clippers continues to grow, so does the list of billionaires prepared to buy Donald Sterling’s team from him if given the opportunity (Magic Johnson already wants in).

Both Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Dre have expressed that they are considering placing bids for the team if the NBA’s board of governors force Sterling to sell it. Oprah Winfrey, media mogul David Geffen and businessman Larry Ellison would place a bid together. To set the record straight, Geffen told ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap that he and Ellison would run the team, while Oprah would be an investor.

Nicole Nichols, Oprah’s spokesperson, issued a statement confirming Geffen’s statements: “Oprah Winfrey is in discussions with David Geffen and Larry Ellison to make a bid for the Los Angeles Clippers should the team become available.”

On the more casual side of things, TMZ caught up with Dr. Dre outside of Boa Steakhouse earlier to congratulate him for topping Forbes 2014 list of Wealthiest Hip Hop Artists and inquire about the Sterling situation. When asked if he’d be interested in using his guap to purchase the Clippers, he said, “I’m thinking about it. Absolutely.” He wasn’t too sure about changing the team’s name, though.
