Premiere: A. R. Rahman “Keep The Hustle” Feat. Wale

Stepping up to the plate this month is Disney with the baseball-themed film, “Million Dollar Arm” (on May 13). Featuring music composed and performed by two-time Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman, the soundtrack includes collaborations with rap’s tight spitting Wale, Aussie hip-hopper Iggy Azalea and Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall.

This is one of those film scores that come around every decade and knocks it out of the ballpark (think Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo & Juliet” in ’96 meets 2002’s “8 Mile” meets Trent Reznor’s score for 2010’s “The Social Network”), not only with powerful tunes, but also, through encompassing a generation’s zeitgeist. In 2014, modern music is a sonic free-for-all, and “Million Dollar Arm’s” soundtrack could easily serve as a blueprint to today’s genre-varied ethos and creative landscape.

“I’m excited to share with music fans some unusual collaborations with Iggy Azalea,Wale, and KT Tunstall on the music in “Million Dollar Arm,” said Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman. “The soundtrack we created together truly captures the beautiful culture and energy behind the film— reminding us all how important it is to be open to new possibilities in life. The word Disney always brings a smile to me. I hope this soundtrack and movie stay blessed in many ways.”

VIBE has the premiere of Rahman’s “Keep the Hustle,” featuring Wale, off the soundtrack. A mishmash of elements that fuse Indian music with the big synth of electronica, all set under Wale’s boss lyrics – listen to the grand slam sound first, below.
