Supposedly, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. After Stephanie Smith made her boyfriend a sandwich and he declared, “Honey, you’re three hundred sandwiches away from an engagement ring,” that became her mentality. Smith set out on a quest to woo her hopeful hubby by preparing 300 unique sandwiches and starting a recipe-driven blog about the journey (which eventually led to a book deal).
One year and 256 sandwiches later, she is now rocking a new diamond on her left ring finger. As soon as she and Eric touched down for a vacay in Barbados, he surprised her and popped the question next to a huge heart of flowers. Critics initially wagged their fingers at her task, saying that the whole situation was chauvinistic, Stepford Wives-esque and not based solely on love. Looks like the happy couple had the last laugh. Or the last bite.
